Who we are and why we run this project.

librenet-de was started by a small group of people interested in civil rights in the digital age. We are not a registered organization, just a loose network of volunteers who translate, summarize, and publish material in their spare time.

Our principles

We are independent from political parties, governments, and corporations. This project is funded privately and carries no advertising.

A short history of freedom of expression

The right to freely express and share one's opinion in speech, writing, and image is a cornerstone of modern democratic societies. It emerged, in many countries, as a deliberate response to periods of censorship and propaganda in the twentieth century. Today the question is how this fundamental right should be shaped in an increasingly digital public sphere.
